Hi,
Be very aware of self-closing hoods. If they fail this is very serious.They may not have stops and can slam closed.
I would suggest using a conventional hood rather than a self-closing hood that relies on a motion sensor.
Investigate further if you see the sash propped up with a piece of wood, test tube rack, hot plate, etc....
There is likely a failed hood sash.
Stay safe in the storms if you are on the East Coast.
