Ralph et al,
From what I can recall when I used it,
the expiration date was merely a guide; I would normally impose a 3-year
limit.
Then again, I really had DMF around when
I was using it in a process, otherwise a small (500mL) was typically always
present.
But for prolonged storage "issues",
extended life would lend exposure to acids and some alkali.
At 5 years, I would dispose of it according
to local regulations, utilizing secondary containment if possible. Purifying
it would not be recommended.
