I see that his web page says:
Just a quick note concerning the exploding pumpkin video many of you watched on the World Wide Web and on television stations across the nation. This experiment should ONLY be
done by a science educator. This experiment should NEVER be done at home! You will notice from the video, I did not inform viewers of the “secret” ingredient used to self-carve the pumpkin and there were no kid science helpers assisting in the segment. While
my goal is to get America excited about science, I want kids, young and old, to understand the importance behind science safety. Go to http://www.hookedonscience.org/experimentarchive.html for a complete list of science safety precautions that should be taken
with any experiment and a list of safe experiments you can try at home. – Jason Lindsey
…but doesn't answer Mary Beth's question.
